pain: what causes it and how to cure
Back pain can occur due
to problems in muscles, ligaments, cartilage, bones or nerves. But most often
the pain is due to tension or tension in the muscles or ligaments in the lower
back. This back pain is rarely severe and usually goes away on its own after a
while.
Here are some tips for
back pain:
Take it slowly for 2-3
days but do not lie in bed. Maintain a calmer activity such as walking but
avoid long sets, avoid lifting objects and jump until the back pain has
improved.
Try a stiffer mattress
and use pillows to support e.g. below the knee at night.
It's okay to try
over-the-counter painkillers in pharmacies.
Test the heat pack for 20
minutes every 2-4 hours, but be careful not to sleep with the heat pack.
Seek medical attention if
the back pain has not started to improve in 3-4 weeks.
When to seek help?
Seek medical attention
the next day if the following symptoms are associated with back pain:
Pain leads down to the
buttocks or leg
Constant and severe pain
that does not improve despite painkillers.
Frequent urination or
pain during urination.
If you have diabetes, a
weakened immune system you will need to take steroids regularly.
If you have had cancer
and have been losing weight lately.
The pain is worse at
night or when lying down.
Blisters, rashes and pain
are in the same place as the pain.
Persistent numbness or
tingling in the leg or leg.
Chronic loss of stool or
urine control.
Fever with nausea /
vomiting in men.
Contact your nearest
emergency department immediately if any of the following symptoms occur with
back pain:
Increased weakness in the
legs. Difficulty moving legs, feet or toes.
Sudden numbness or
tingling in the leg, leg, groin or rectum.
Sudden loss of bowel
movements or urination.
Cannot urinate for more
than 8 hours.
Pain and blood during
urination.
Cold and dry skin.
Pain leads to neck,
shoulders, jaw or arms.
Pain leads to the groin
or genitals.
Fever with nausea /
vomiting in women.
Find the nearest
emergency room or clinic.
Prevention
The best way to prevent
back pain is to strengthen your back muscles and abdominal muscles. Here are
some good general strength exercises that can help and are easy to do at home.
